Stakeholder workshop in Riga
The integrated ecosystems service assessment approach employed in the Latvian Case study and the Baltic Explorer was presented at a workshop on MSP hosted by the Latvian Institute of Aquatic Ecology and the Latvian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development on the 20th of February in Riga, Latvia. Representatives from the Latvian national and regional ministries and authorities, as well as NGOs attended the workshop.
The workshop was organised in two parts. Firstly, the participants were introduced to the ecosystems service assessment process, and familiarized with how the result of the assessment can serve as basis for ecosystem-based marine management. Then, the participants were split into two groups for some hands-on experience of using the Baltic Explorer. Employing the interactive, collaborative planning and analysis tools provided by the Baltic Explorer, the participants designated a wind farm development site in the Latvian marine waters.
